THE EVALUATION OF FADAMA ACTIVITIES TOWARDS THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NIGERIA

(A CASE OF ANAMBRA STATE)

ABSTRACT

In this research work titled “The evaluation of Fadama activities towards the growth and development of Nigeria with particular reference Anambra state. The specific objectives of this project work include; the researcher examined Fadama production profitable dentine. examine if Fadama production be attributed to inefficiency in the use of the use of the resources. Determine the efficiency level of Fadama production and to identify the problems encounter by the Fadama producers. Determined the problems affecting Fadama production. And also ascertain the socio-economic benefits of the Fadama programme in Nigeria. Data for the study was sourced from two main sources Primary and Secondary. Primary data were sourced from the use of questionnaires and oral interviews. Secondary data were sourced from journals, and other relevant materials. Extensive literature review was carried out on the direct literature and indirect literature on books, journals and past works. The research instrument used in this study includes oral interview and questionnaire. The questionnaire is structural as to contain both close and open ended question. Simple tables and percentages were used in treatment of data. At the end the researcher found out thatPoverty among Nigerian farmers, attitude of some local government chairman to agricultural development, delay by some state governors in constituting their counterpart fund to Fadama projects and traditional family land ownership in rural communities as some of the problems facing the Fadama projects in Nigeria. Based on the findings the researchers Recommendations were made that; prerequisite condition for a farmer to benefit from the supply of agricultural inputs and extension services by the Fadama development program depends on the ability of the farmers to form Fadama users groups, under which all agricultural inputs and other assistance and provided through the leaders of the groups.  some farmers could not convenience others to from a group.
