MAN POWER TRAINING AS AN AID TO MANAGEMENT EFFECTIVENESS IN BUSINESS ENTERPRISES

(A CASE STUDY OF NIGER OPTICAL SERVICES LTD ENUGU)

ABSTRACT

 

This project work is directed towards caring out a research on how manpower training in an organization improves business enterprise with special reference to Niger optical Service Company limited (NOSCO) Enugu. This research work has five chapters.

The first chapter gives a detailed introduction of the work and the case study.

While the second chapter emphasizes on the literature review.

The third chapter deals with the design of the study, the methods used in collecting relevant data. It also deals with way the questionnaires were distributed and the treatment of data.

The data got from the research survey were analyses and interpreted also similar questions on both questionnaires were compared in chapter four.

Finally the last chapter (chapter five) states the discussion, recommendation and conclusion and above all, gives a brief but straight to the point (the point of conclusion)

CHAPTER ONE

 

INTRODUCTION

1.1              BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This research work is an attempt to study the important of human resources management in a business organization or enterprises, which is of paramount importance to the survival of the organization. Every organization, to a large extent depends more on these resources for the attainment of its objectives.

          However, the objectives cannot be achieved unless the organization is made up of the employees who have skill, knowledge and ability to work. Although employees may have the abilities, skills and knowledge, in the long – run, they may find it very difficult to cope with their jobs due to many factors such as organizational changes, job changes technological changes and so on.

          Therefore, management involves manpower training and development as one of its various activities. When workers are employed, the y are not just left to stay and work until they are due for retirement, but they are being trained in order to increase their abilities, skills and knowledge.

          Experience has shown that many employees have failed in organization because their need for training was not identified or provided for as an indispensable part of management functions.

          However, employees are not just, trained for gaining benefits only, the organization stand s to gain a let from them as well. The manpower development programme is a very important activity management cannot afford to miss because of its various objective, a lot of reasons explain why organization carryout manpower training.

 These include:

vTo avoid high cost s of waste and equipment maintenance

vTo improve the quantity of output

vTo improve the quality of output

vTo prevent employee obsolesce

vTo laser the cost of wastes and equipment maintenance

vTo prevent turnover, absenteeism and increase employees job satisfaction.

Though, a substantial amount of money is needed for this programme but it is regarded as money well invested because of its various benefits. Infact, the importance of manpower training cannot be over –
